Palworld has a unique multiplayer server system that has a few restrictions on characters players can use. In many situations, players will need to make a brand new character for multiplayer, but it’s a little complex. Below, we’ll make it easy to understand.
Can I Use My Single-Player Palworld Character in Multiplayer Too?
In Palworld’s early access launch, your single-player character is not directly transferable to multiplayer servers. This means you’ll create a separate character specifically for multiplayer sessions. However, there are some nuances to consider depending on your role as host or guest.
This was lightly touched on in the developer FAQ, but it makes us think that the game will likely make the change seamless in the future. For now you have to follow the guidelines for multiplayer.
Can My Friends Use Their Single-Player Character in My Multiplayer World in Palworld?
If you host the multiplayer session, your friends can only play in your multiplayer world with the character they create specifically for that session. So, they cannot use their single-player character in a multiplayer world.
If you’re hosting a co-op game with up to 3 friends, you have the flexibility to switch seamlessly between single-player and multiplayer. This allows you to continue your solo progress while inviting others to join your world at any point. However, your friends will not have the same freedom.
Why Can’t I Use My Single-Player Character in My Friend’s Multiplayer World in Palworld?
Currently, Palworld doesn’t have a server/save transfer system. Each world, whether single-player or multiplayer, exists independently. This separation keeps character progression and world settings distinct between single-player and multiplayer experiences. As a host, you can enjoy both modes seamlessly because the server is running for you. However, the developers are actively working on future solutions for greater save file flexibility.
The developers plan to implement a transfer method later in development, allowing players to migrate their save files between different game modes. So, while directly using your single-player character in other players’ worlds isn’t yet possible, options exist for playing together.
