“Wow, what a BG3 launch it’s been! The anticipation had been building for weeks, and the BG3 hype saw Larian Forums, a favorite stop for Baldur’s Gate 3 fans, buckle under the weight of such immense traffic. Even Fextralife, the gaming wiki that has guided many an adventurer through intricate quests, found itself fighting a server overload, according to Reddit. Even Fantasy Name Generator wasn’t safe, as fans desired to find unique and fitting names for their Tiefling characters.

I mean, we all knew the hype around Baldur’s Gate 3 launch was off the charts, but who could’ve predicted (well, a lot of people, honestly) the kind of pandemonium we saw online? We’ve all seen the cause and effect of massive launchers, but this was grand that many sites got taken down by the sheer weight of BG3 numbers, as Steamdb recorded almost a whopping half a million users laying Baldur’s Gate 3 on launch day, all itching to step into the world created by Larian Studios. The old all-time peak three years was around 75k!
Most of these are used to having heavy traffic but not even being prepared when the Baldur’s Gate 3 fans come knocking. Though out of all of this, it’s lovely to know that BG3 is undoubtedly a massive success and will continue to be so, as patches and potentially DLC may arrive in the future, though it’s still early days for talk of that.
