Baldur’s Gate 3 is now out of early access. Larian Studios have recommended everyone delete their saved files and total campaign progress, as these are incompatible with the final release. Conflicts may occur, and deleting your data reduces these problems drastically. So to truly delete all of your data, where is BG3 save locations from early access from In-Game, Windows, Mac, Steam, and GOG?
Where are Baldur’s Gate 3 saves located? Early Access
Depending on where you have purchased Baldur’s Gate 3 early access, the distribution software depends on where some data is on your system. It’s better to be safe and ensure all files are deleted before downloading and installing Baldur’s Gate 3 full release. Let me run you by the steps for each system.
How to back up Baldur’s Gate 3 saves
To back up your cloud saves, head to the following locations:
- C:UsersusernameAppDataLocalLarian StudiosBaldur’s Gate 3
- Copy/Move the folder PlayerProfiles to another location before deleting them.
How to troubleshoot save file problems
If you are one of the unlucky ones and are having issues with your Baldur’s Gate 3 saves, or loading Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian Studios have said the following will happen when the game launches:

Baldur’s Gate 3 Save File Location – In-Game
Larian Studios have recommended via a news update on Steam to delete your early access saves. And the best way to do that is from the main menu of Baldur’s Gate 3 itself. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open Baldur’s Gate 3.
- On the main menu, click Load Game.
- Click through old campaigns and select Delete Campaign.
- Delete all of them.
Now uninstall Baldur’s Gate 3 from Steam.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Save File Location – Windows – App Data
To delete any cloud saves or anything left behind from Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s also recommended to delete your Baldur’s Gate 3 folder found in AppData. To do this:
- Locate your C: Drive. This is located in My Computer, This PC, or you can search for it via the Windows search bar.
- Find the folder called Users, and select the main account you use. Double-click that.
- Locate AppData, and double-click it.
- Double-click Local
- Find the Larian Studios folder, and double-click that.
- Inside Larian Studios, delete the entire Baldur’s Gate 3 folder.
Now if AppData is hidden, which it is by default, follow these steps to find it:
- Go into Local Folder following the steps above.
- At the top of the window, they’ll be four tabs, File, Home, Share, and View. Click on View.
- Underneath all the options will change. Look to the far right to find Options.
- Click it and select Change folder and search options.
- Go to the View tab, and find Hidden files and folders.
- Select Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
- Now AppData will appear in Local.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Save File Location – Mac
To delete the files on Mac for Baldur’s Gate 3, do the following:
- Head to $Home, then Documents.
- Find the Larian Studios folder, and inside will be a Baldur’s Gate 3 folder.
- Delete the entire folder.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Save File Location – Steam
To ensure after you have uninstalled Baldur’s Gate 3 from Steam, that no files remain. Follow these steps:
- Go to where your Steam folder is located. This is where you installed Steam.
- In the Steam folder, find steamapps, and double-click it.
- Double-click Common.
- And delete the Baldur’s 3 folder.

Now we’re going to ensure all saves are deleted:
- Go to where your Steam folder is located. This is where you installed Steam.
- In the Steam folder, find userdata and double-click it.
- Now select your unique username folder – this number is unique to your Steam account.
- If you only have one user on Steam, this will only be one folder
- If you have several, I’ll explain after this how to find it.
- Locate the folder called 1086940 and delete it.
To find your unique folder number, otherwise known as your SteamID3 on Steam, follow these steps:
- Open up your Steam, and in the top-right corner, select your username and go to Account Details
- In the new window that appears, underneath where it says Username’s Account will be your Steam ID.
- Copy all of these numbers.
- Next, go to https://steamid.io/lookup/ and paste/type in these numbers, and press lookup.
- Where it says steamID3 is the number you need to find in these folders. The number after U:1: is the number.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Save File Location – GOG
To find your Baldur’s Gate 3 save files using GOG Galaxy, follow these instructions:
- Go to My Documents
- This is located in the C: Drive, then Users, and select your user.
- Find the Larian Studios folder, and then inside will be Baldur’s Gate 3.
- Delete this Baldur’s Gate 3 folder.
