Following the feedback received after the implementation of PAYDAY 2’s update 237, the developers have issued a detailed statement addressing several key issues in the game. They acknowledged the complications that players have been experiencing and affirmed their commitment to making improvements.
“We’re writing this to address your feedback and the state of the game following update 237,” the developers began, acknowledging the significance of player feedback in their improvement processes. Despite their efforts to seamlessly implement the update, they acknowledged that they “missed the mark in a few key areas”.
One primary area of concern is the game’s matchmaking. The developers noted that it is currently facing a series of challenges, which cannot be resolved simultaneously. Therefore, they have opted to address these issues gradually via a series of minor updates, depending on players’ feedback to guide their progress. However, due to the complexity of the problem, they were unable to provide a specific date for when the matchmaking fixes would be fully implemented.
Another significant issue raised was data sharing. In response to concerns over user data protection, the developers reassured players that the only data sent to the matchmaking service is the public Steam ID. They clarified that no other company, unless specifically mentioned in their terms of service, gains access to players’ data. They further explained that matchmaking functionality had been hindered due to their reluctance to share basic location information. To improve matchmaking ping for all players, they revealed plans to include the country data in future updates.
The developers also addressed issues related to the game’s functionality on Linux. After significant effort to update the game on native Linux and the older version of the diesel engine that PAYDAY 2 uses, they admitted to falling short of their goals. They advised Linux users to access the game via Proton and promised continued testing of new updates with Proton to ensure functionality for future patches and releases.
In light of these ongoing issues, PAYDAY 2’s upcoming Crude Awakening Heist has been delayed by a week, from June 20th to June 27th. The developers believe this will provide them with sufficient time to implement some of the matchmaking fixes before the heist release.
In concluding their statement, the developers apologized for the recent issues and reiterated their commitment to addressing them effectively. “We want to do right by our players, you deserve as much,” they affirmed. With these planned improvements, they hope to enhance the gaming experience for all PAYDAY 2 players.
