Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs, a VR twist on the classic IP from Resolution Games, will officially get a PS VR2 release on October 10th, 2023, according to a new post from the Resolution Games Twitter feed. Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs originally launched in 2019 and is available now on PS VR and Quest. You can watch today’s trailer for the new PS VR2 version on the Resolution Games YouTube channel:
Perhaps the most defining trait of Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs was the impressive online level builder. This kind of feature is rare in any regard, let alone in the VR space. But it has consistently sustained interest by allowing players to build their own community and keep content fresh, much like Fall Guys’ new creative mode, which was added last May.
Players are likely to make their own mods anyway, and even AAA titles like Halo have a forge system. However, level builders often compensate for games that offer less content, and some fans were annoyed that Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs didn’t quite offer enough levels to explore.
There have been a variety of Angry Birds games exploring various genres. It would have been very simple for the devs to phone it in, especially with families taking their kids to the Angry Birds 2 film, which came out the same year as Isle of Pigs.
However, much of Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs is more thoughtful than other Angry Birds spin-offs, and the story adds some fun little lore to the familiar characters.
Still, it would have been beneficial for today’s trailer to reveal how the PS VR2 version will differ from previous releases so that players who own the older title might have some incentive to check out the new one.
