Blasphemous 2, the sequel to the acclaimed action-platformer Blasphemous, continues to be infused with layers of in-game mechanics. One subtle yet impactful layer revolves around the accumulation of Guilt. But what causes this Guilt? Primarily, it amasses when a player meets their demise in-game and when they neglect to collect their guilt fragment post-death. While roaming the City of the Blessed Name, players will stumble upon a specific NPC called the Confessor, who offers the option to purge this accumulated Guilt. The big question is – should you take up this offer and purge yourself of Guilt in Blasphemous 2?
Blasphemous 2 – Should You Purge Yourself of Guilt?
The straightforward answer is yes, you should. Actually, you should always purge your Guilt in Blasphemous 2. Here’s why:
At certain increments of Guilt, your Fervour bar will become impaired, meaning you have less Fervour to use your Prayers and Hidden Verses. This is quite a hindrance in the early stages of the game, as a lot of damage will be dealt through these spells. Even if you always reclaim your Guilt Fragment, you will always accumulate 2% of Guilt, and every 20%, the Fervour gauge will become impaired.
During my experience at the end game, I felt when I had a higher level of Guilt, I was taking more damage than usual. I was trying out a specific figurine for a boss that increased my damage the more guilt I had. I had completely forgotten that in the starting tutorial about guilt, it mentions the higher it is, the more damage you will take. So, to put it bluntly, that figurine is no good, as the damage increase it provides isn’t worth the extra damage you take. Once I purged myself of Guilt, I won the hellish boss fight after a few battles!
With these implications, it becomes evident that one should aim to avoid death as much as possible. And in unfortunate scenarios of demise, always strive to retrieve the guilt fragment.
What Does Purging Yourself of Guilt Do in Blasphemous 2?
However, purging yourself of Guilt does cost Tears in Blasphemous 2, and this cost increases as you progress through the game. But it’s the cost of reclaiming back your Fevour meter and potentially taking less damage.
The cost of purging your Guilt will change as you progress through the game. At the start, it cost me 1,000 Tears of Atonement to the Confessor, but then it increased to 2,000, and then near the end game, it was a whopping 10,000 Tears to remove my Guilt.
How to Tell How Much I Have in Blasphemous 2
To find out how much Guilt you have in Blasphemous 2, press the Start button and make your way to the far left tab called The Penitent One. On the left side of the screen, underneath your bile flasks, there will be a % and a word underneath. This will say Immaculatus when your Guilt is below 20%. This is your guilt gauge.
