Rainbow Skies, the isometric turn-based strategy RPG from SideQuest Studios and EastAsiaSoft, has just released a new trailer ahead of this week’s Nintendo Switch release. The trailer showcases an overview of combat gameplay, the fantasy world, and a range of tamable monsters.
Rainbow Skies originally launched in 2018 on a variety of PlayStation consoles, including the PS Vita. According to the official Nintendo product page, Rainbow Skies’ Switch port arrives on August 11th, 2023. You can watch today’s new trailer for the Nintendo Switch version on the EAS YouTube channel:
Rainbow Skies’ Switch port was first announced during EastAsiaSoft’s Early 2023 Showcase, so it’s possible that other titles from that event are likely coming soon too. Rainbow Skies may not have been a little obscure for some, but it’s sort of a PlayStation staple.
Rainbow Skies is a sequel to Rainbow Moon, combining a lot of traditional monster taming and RPG ideas, such as countless upgrades, side quests, dungeons and treasure. Although, it does have an unexpected sense of humor. For example, the story begins with one of the heroes failing an exam and causing disaster because of a hangover.
The game released on the PS Vita shortly before that console was discontinued. As a result, fans may already be familiar with how it plays on the go. But the Switch is probably a more reliable platform for that.
It’s a surprise that Rainbow Skies hasn’t seen other ports over the years, and many are still holding out for the franchise to expand in general. It’s got a friendly gameplay loop, despite the grind. And while the tone is a little offbeat, it seems built for fans who are equally nostalgic for its influences. Hopefully, there will be a port for other consoles too, if the Switch version thrives.
