Rogue Legacy 2 is slated for release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on June 20. The upcoming PlayStation launch will integrate all recent content updates, putting it on par with existing Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC versions available on Steam.
Included in the updates is the last significant one, “Swan Song,” which was made available in April. This update introduced three special game modes, three new fabled weapons, and a new boss encounter.
The game is described as a genealogical rogue-LITE, which combines the characteristics of a typical roguelike game — randomized runs and changing characters — with persistent upgrades and dead heirs. The game’s unique mechanics involve spending your parents’ inheritance and developing the family manor to bolster your offspring’s fighting chances. Every child is unique with different traits and abilities. Gameplay adjusts to individual styles, offering players the chance to dive deep into the randomly-generated world or gradually build up their character.

Key features of the game include unique adventures with new monsters, traps, and layouts each time a player enters the Kingdom. There are wildly new classes, each with different styles of play. Players can select from 15 classes, including the Ranger, Dragon Lancer, and the joyous bard. The game supports 15 new classes, each with distinct play styles.
The game’s visual approach features 2.5D styling with 3D characters against hand-drawn backdrops. Biome generation has been revamped to ensure each area in Rogue Legacy 2 feels unique while maintaining the randomly-generated nature.
Notably, to enhance the Metroidvania aspect, the game introduces heirlooms. These are special items that permanently give heroes new abilities and reveal the world’s secrets. They significantly change the gameplay style and require players to prove their worth to acquire them.

Traits 2.0 have been included to add challenge and reward balance. The more detrimental the trait is to gameplay, the larger the reward, making the choice of heirs a significant decision in every game.
Relics, a new feature in Rogue Legacy 2, are unique items that can change a player’s run by adding stat modifiers, special challenges, or new abilities. However, collecting more relics shakes a player’s resolve, and all relics are lost if a hero dies.
The introduction of House Rules improves accessibility. They allow players to tweak global damage, health, and even give flight for difficult platform sections. A new mechanic, Off-shore Banking, provides more ways for players to succeed.
Furthermore, the game enriches its lore and deepens its narrative through multiple New Games, revealing dark secrets of a once-thriving kingdom. New Game+ extends the journey, adding unique biome hazards and special boss fights for near-infinite replayability.
